Whose side are you leaning on in 2010?

It is now 2010 and many of us have already set goals and made plans for what we would like to accomplish in the year. Some of us spend hours trying to figure out what it is that we want to do in 2010. However, most of us never take the time to consider what God wants us to accomplish through us this new year.
This is very important to understand because Proverbs 19:21 says – Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. Have you ever set a goal for yourself and failed to reach it? Some may have planned on buying a new house in 2009 but it did not work out. The question that you must ask yourself is were my failures due to my flesh or was God redirecting my energy elsewhere?
Do you take the time to ask God before setting goals and making plans for the future? If you have been skipping this very important step, I caution you to skip it no more. As the scripture says, the Lord’s purpose will always prevail. Before you plan your next career move, ask God. Before you decide to leave your spouse because they are not acting right, ask God. Before you make any decision, ask God. Some people say, why should I ask God about everything when he has given us a mind perfectly capable of making decisions. While this is true, keep in mind that our decisions are based on limited knowledge. We are not omniscient. We are not “The Great I Am”. We are not the Alpha and Omega.
The Bible says – trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make straight your paths. Now to me that sounds like a promise. Scripture didn’t say He might make straight your paths and Scripture didn’t say He will sometimes make straight your paths. However, Scripture clearly states that He will make straight your paths.
In 2010, the only plans that we should be making is planning on serving God and planning on totally depending on God in every aspect of your life. Don’t get caught in the new year of 2010 making the same old bad decisions of 2009. The one thing that is for certain is that you can’t go wrong with God.
